Attorney Profile

Durante_Peter-11 (1)

Peter is a Colorado native who believes that serious clients choose an attorney they will develop a long-term relationship with.  Peter provides counsel for client’s immediate and long-term personal/business goals.  In addition to being an expert in his field, Peter builds strong relationships with his client’s by listening, responding promptly, and communicating complex concepts in an easy to understand manner.  This client-centered approach allows Peter to educate clients on the law in order to allow the client to choose the best path forward.

Peter focuses his practice on the following areas:

  • Long-Term Care Medicaid Planning
  • Veterans Benefits Planning (Accredited Attorney by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
  • Special Needs Planning

These areas are complex and highly specialized fields and most general estate planners are unfamiliar with the intricacies. Peter has undergone additional training and stays current with the frequent law and rule changes so that he can harmonize an asset protection strategy with the client’s existing and future planning needs. In addition, Peter drafts wills, financial powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney, living wills, HIPPA authorizations and counsels individuals, couples, families, and businesses on how to transfer wealth, and protect their assets. He uses trusts, limited liability companies, succession planning, and charitable giving, when appropriate, to achieve tax savings and his clients’ personal objectives. Peter provides updated advice as clients navigate different life stages.

In addition to providing entity advice during estate planning, Peter enjoys working with clients during all stages of a company’s life cycle, from formation to operations to dissolution or sale. As a business lawyer, he represents new entrepreneurs, start-up companies, Boards of Directors, and operating businesses in a range of industries. His practice includes corporate governance, commercial contracts, intellectual property, and employment and human resources advice, among other matters. Peter combines his MBA with his past management and in-house experience to provide strong legal advice while also understanding and discussing the business implications of legal decisions.

While working with clients on estate planning and business law, Peter uses his advanced legal degree (LL.M.) in taxation to advise individuals and businesses on state and federal income tax implications. He also represents clients in disputes with the IRS, as well as advises on tax matters for start-up businesses, acquisitions, dispositions, liquidations, and joint ventures.
